Common questions about couples therapy

  • I am a fairly directive couple’s counselor. This means I’ll be actively involved in our sessions, but I’ll also ask you to communicate directly to your partner more than to me.

    For most couples, I utilize the Gottman Method,which allows us to focus on practicing effective communication skills in session so you feel prepared to utilize them right away at home.

    Couple’s sessions can be 60-minutes or 90-minutes, and we meet online using a secure telehealth platform called Simple Practice.

  • The length of time we’ll spend together will depend on your needs as a couple. Some couples come in to address a specific issue while others find that they stay with me for a while as their lives evolve and circumstances change.

    As long as counseling continues to be helpful, I’ll be here to support you.

    I encourage couples to attend weekly therapy sessions. Especially at the beginning of the process, frequent couples counseling will help keep you accountable and on track towards your goals.

    However, I completely understand that you're making a huge time and financial investment, and I'm happy to meet with you biweekly if that better suits your circumstances.

  • It’s not uncommon for one partner to want to seek support before the other is ready. But don’t fret, I’m happy to meet with you individually- we’ll simply work on identifying your individual goals until your other half is ready to join.
